Deborah Curtin

1957-05-25 2015-07-05

Deborah Rae Curtin, 58, of Mahomet left this life after her courageous battle with cancer, in her home surrounded by her family on Sunday (July 5, 2015).

Debbie was born on May 25, 1957, the eldest daughter of Charlie and Ruth (King) Miller. She graduated from the University of Illinois and worked as chief of the Environmental Processes Branch, Construction Engineering Research Laboratory Engineer Research and Development Center, Champaign.

She was married to her loving husband, Ted Curtin, for 37 wonderful years.

Debbie worked tirelessly as an advocate for the rights of those with special needs. She worked closely with those in Springfield and the local Developmental Services Center in Champaign and was very instrumental in bringing a new group home to Mahomet where her two youngest children will reside once it is opened later this summer.

She leaves her loving memories to be cherished by her three children, Brent Curtin and his wife Alicia of Fithian, Kyle Curtin and Megan Curtin, both of Mahomet. She will also be remembered with love by her two sisters, Karin Devore (husband Richard and nephew Zack) of Plainfield and Marsha Miller of Champaign.

For those who knew Debbie well, they knew that she would often say she loved animals more than people. This past May 25th as we celebrated her last birthday, she was found feeding her birthday cake to the three special dogs in her life, her black Lab, Cheyenne, her grand-dog Hailey and her nephew-dog Lucky.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Charlie and Ruth Miller, as well as her grandparents.

Memorial donations can be made to the Debbie Curtin Memorial Fund for the benefit of Kyle and Megan's Group Home in Mahomet. Donations can be sent to any First Mid-Illinois Bank & Trust location.

Condolences may be left at www.morganmemorialhome.com.
