
Jarelle (Cindy) Stein

Jarelle S. Stein, 59, formerly of Urbana, passed away in the early morning hours of Friday, March 31, 2017, at her home in Lake Forest, Calif.
Jarelle was born in Lincoln on July 23, 1957, the fourth child of James and Claudine (Perry) Stein. She married Zoe Pittman on Nov. 15, 2014. She was preceded in death by her parents.
In addition to her spouse, Jarelle is survived by her five siblings: Susan "Sue" Stein (Doug Rose) of Tampa, Fla., Jeffrey "Jeff" Stein (Mimi Rivera) of Mays Landing, N.J., Tina Croix of Champaign, Anita Stein (Harvey Welch) of Urbana and Andrew "Andy" Stein (Denise) of San Diego, Calif. She is also survived by eight nephews and nieces and one great-nephew.
Jarelle graduated from Urbana High School in 1975 and the University of Illinois in 1980 with a double major in English and rhetoric.
She was a brilliant freelance writer and editor whose credits appear in numerous publications. Prior to moving to California to work for a book publishing company, Jarelle worked as an editor for Time Life Books in Washington, D.C.
Jarelle loved the outdoors and enjoyed working on her home that she shared with her spouse. She was an avid reader and was a master of the English language. She was a gentle soul who was a champion of the underdog. She willingly shared her time, talent and empathy with her numerous friends and relatives. Her generous spirit will undoubtedly live on through her writing and through the lives she touched.
Her family would like to thank the staff of VITAS hospice and the wonderful friends who surrounded Jarelle during her final days.
